Zen Mind, Zen Horse: Learning Transformational Horsemanship
Saturday & Sunday, February 9 & 10, 2013
at Rancho Bosque in Tucson, AZ
In one weekend, you will learn how to fine-tune your intuition
and super charge your non-verbal communication capabilities
to transform you and your horse.
Master forty fundamental exercises on the ground and under saddle
Learn this unique approach to horsemanship with Harvard-trained brain surgeon, author and world-renowned horseman Dr. Allan J. Hamilton. Dr. Hamilton personally guides you through his step-by-step method, working with each participant and horse throughout the clinic. You will master a reliable, progressive, step-by-step ARDP (Ask, Request, Demand, and Promise) approach that will ensure we can teach our horse all of the forty fundamental exercises on the ground and under saddle that every horse must know to be respectful, responsive, and reliable.
This clinic will build confidence in your horse reading and communicating skills by understanding the non-verbal language of the horse. Achieve greater success in your partnership, whether you are a backyard horseman or a competitive rider.

The Neuro-Equine Model
The clinics are based on Dr. Hamilton's award-winning, best-selling book Zen Mind, Zen Horse—The Science and Spirituality of Working with Horses (Storey Publishing, 2011). You will learn and practice the principles, methods, and techniques of the Neuro-Equine Model that will transform you and the way you relate to your horse, earn his respect and teach him to respond to your commands on the ground and under the saddle.
A Unique Blend of Science, Spirituality and Horsemanship
Dr. Hamilton is an author and motivational speaker known for his illuminating presentations on the science of spirituality. As a horseman, he teaches how we can integrate the mental, emotional, and spiritual principles of horsemanship to transform ourselves into better, kinder, and more effective individuals. And, along the way, you take your horsemanship to a whole new level!
Clinics have been designed to harness the intuitive capacity and non-verbal capabilities of our right brain so we can achieve the following objectives:
- To understand all the energetic subtleties of non-verbal communication with our horses
- To give us a horse that will respond quickly and energetically to feather-light cues and commands every time
- To make our horse safe, secure, and steady under even the most scary or unexpected circumstances
- To bring balance and responsiveness to our seat
- To get a flexible, soft horse under saddle with smooth transitions and comfortable gaits
- To use the mental, emotional, and spiritual principles of horsemanship to transform ourselves into better, kinder, and more effective individuals
- To learn the ten most important spiritual lessons of horsemanship
Format
The clinic runs from 9-5 on Saturday and Sunday. Wholesome lunch, snacks, and beverages will be served. Meals to meet vegetarian or other dietary restrictions or preferences are always available. You are encouraged to arrive the night before. Horse trailer camping is available on site at Rancho Bosque, along with pens. We have also secured discounted rates at nearby hotels.
We will end the clinic with a late afternoon trail ride (weather permitting but rarely a problem in Tucson!) into the beautiful Tanque Verde Wash, where you will get a close-up view of the natural beauty of the Sonoran Desert and surrounding mountains.
