COURSE & CLINIC OFFERINGS 2008-2009
For the 2008-2009 season, Rancho Bosque is proud to offer its most wide-ranging curriculum yet! Three of our seminars are approved by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) Continuing Education, marked with an *. So now you can work with horses and also get credits for doing it! All courses are taught under the supervision of nationally renown, licensed professionals and in compliance with NBCC guidelines.
Course Descriptions
Demonstration: Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT) & Substance Abuse:
Dates: Saturday, September 27th 2008
Prerequisite: None
Description: A seminar on the applications of EAT to the specific issues surrounding substance abuse including: abuse (individual and family context), familial history and inheriting abuse, intervention, enabling, family contexts of substance abuse, and psychological and emotional issues surrounding maintaining sobriety. Enrollment limited to sixteen adults COURSE FULL

Course 001 Title: Introduction to Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT)*:
Dates: Friday October 24thand Saturday October 25th 2008
Prerequisite: None
Description: The National Board of Certified Counselors approves this course for 16 credit hours of Continuing Education credits. This is a 2-day seminar for anyone interested in becoming familiar and proficient in the practice of equine-assisted therapy. The course covers basic individual and group exercises and how they can be employed in specific clinical scenarios and situations.
Individuals who finish the course will be able to immediately apply EAT in their selected field(s) of expertise.
Who Should Attend: Psychologists, counselors, social workers, therapists, anyone with an interest of becoming familiar with EAT principles.
Cost: $500 per participant. Early registrants before September 15th will receive a $75 discount off the full registration costs.

Course 002 Title: Intermediate-Level Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT)*:
Dates: Friday January 9th and Saturday January 10th 2009
Description: The National Board of Certified Counselors approves this course for 16 hours of Continuing Education credits. This 2-day seminar focuses on how to use EAT for specific clinical diagnoses (e.g. eating disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, etc.). Each participant will be able to customize his or her own EAT program to meet behavioral therapy needs for individuals, families, and groups.
Who Should Attend: Psychologists, counselors, social workers, therapists, anyone with an interest of becoming familiar with EAT principles.

Course 003 Title: How to Train You and Your Horse for Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT) and Learning (EAL)
Dates: Friday February 6th and Saturday February 7th 2009
Prerequisite: None
Description: This is a hands-on course for the equine professional, owners, trainers, and their horses to participate together in a 2-day seminar. The program trains the individual and his or her horse specifically as a team for the needs of both EAT and EAL programs. The program instructs you in the skills and exercises you will employ for EAT and provides step-by-step instruction in these skills so you can feel confident in your partnership with your horse in the EAT/EAL settings. The course will also cover medical and legal guidelines, safety, professional and institutional certification, injury waivers, equine statutes, and documentation guidelines for liability and insurance coverage and quality assurance programs.
Who Should Attend: Horse trainers, owners, handlers and EAT/EAL practitioners.
Cost: $800 per participant and horse
Boarding: Horses may be boarded overnight at Rancho Bosque facilities at a cost of $15 per night. Only the night of February 6th is available for horses in the seminar. No stallions permitted. Boarding includes individual stall, free access to water, as well as one day’s flake of Bermuda hay and standard feed (Equine SeniorÒ). Owners must provide any additional supplements or other feed. Only horses whose owners have filled out appropriate paperwork, liability forms, and have submitted a veterinarian’s certificate of health (with current Coggins Test within the last year prior to the course starting dates will be permitted to board at Rancho Bosque. Horses that do not meet these requirements will not be permitted to participate in the course for the safety and health of other horses. Boarding; Horses may be boarded for $15 per night. This includes hay and standard feed (any additional supplements or feed requirements will be provided by the horse’s owner).

Course 004 Title: Cancer Warriors: Learning How to Harness Horse Power to Enhance Cancer Survival*:
Dates: Friday March 6th and Saturday March 7th 2009
Prerequisite: None
Description: The National Board of Certified Counselors approves this course for 16 hours of Continuing Education credits. This 2-day seminar is designed specifically with the cancer patient, cancer survivor, and cancer care providers in mind. Cancer not only assaults the body but also lays siege to one’s heart and mind. Having a positive attitude, relying on one’s spiritual and emotional resources, and assembling loved ones to provide support are all integral parts of becoming a successful cancer warrior. Feeling empowered to reject situations or individuals that impose negative feeling or energy upon the cancer patient and his or her support network is also vitally important.
Who Should Attend: Cancer patients and survivors, their families, friends, loved ones, health care professionals, therapists, counselors, and psychologists involved in the care and support of cancer patients.

From Round Pen to Boardroom: Learn to Harness the Power of Non-Verbal Communication from the Masters of Body Language—Horses!

Description: This 2 day/16 hour-long seminar has been reproduced in six different universities around the country and has been featured in Western Horseman, Practical Horsemanship, and Equus Magazine. This course is the same that has been taught to Fortune 500 corporations. The program focuses on how to ensure we demonstrate integrity; namely, that our words and our bodies send the same message. This course focuses on non-verbal language that anyone can invoke to make his or her communication more effective and powerful. Eighty percent of human communication is non-verbal and we spend almost of our attention on the spoken language. This course covers non-verbal cues during casual conversation, in public presentations, in interviews, and working with team members and co-workers. The course also focuses on communication situations were non-verbal cues are vital: i.e., when someone is lying, when breaking bad news, when trying to inspire listeners. Horses are the masters of non-verbal communication. You will come away amazed at how your abilities will be developed and honed to new, almost unbelievable levels after you complete this course.
Who should attend: Anyone, business professionals, retailers, teachers, anyone who must interact with the public.

RB Course 005: Chi & Groundwork: Harness Your Inner Energy to Teach Your Horse To Become Bombproof & Safe!
Description: This 2 day/16 hour-long clinic teaches participants to learn how to feel and manipulate their own bio-energetic fields; namely, their own vital energy, known as chi. This course will take anyone from a complete novice to an accomplished horsewoman or horseman and teach them not only to feel their own chi with certainty and confidence but also how to use that recognition to train your horse. The course uses principles borrowed from Native American, Zen Buddhist, and Chinese philosophies to produce an integrated, natural, safe approach to training horses.
